This engaging session will bring together three of the world’s top experts in lighting research and design.

  • Eric Bretschneider, Ph.D. – “Walking on Sunshine: Light, Health, and Happiness”
  • Brian Liebel, PE – “Guardians of the Dark: Defending the Night Sky in the Age of Satellites”
  • Robert F. Karlicek, Jr., Ph.D. – “Living Light: Bringing the Outdoors Inside”

Together, these thought leaders, our “League of Extraordinary Boffins”, will shed light on how syncing with nature’s rhythms can improve our health, enhance our environments, and transform the spaces where we live and work. The audience is encouraged to participate in a lively discussion about balancing innovation and restraint, as well as how to harness the power of light wisely in an era dominated by technology.

“Lighting isn’t just about visibility, it’s about vitality,” says Doug Steel, PhD, Neuroscientist. “As we embrace new technologies, we must also remember the restorative power of natural light and darkness.”

Tom Butters will moderate this session: Founder & Executive Director of The Lighting Agora.

An industry educator with over three decades of experience, he develops internationally recognized lighting education programmes. Founder of The Lighting Agora and the Executive Director of the National Lighting Bureau, he co-developed the “IES Ready Reference” app and organizes industry events, shaping the future of lighting education.

Organized by All Things Lighting® Association (ATLA), this workshop highlights the organization’s mission: to promote, support, and advance innovation, science, and engineering in lighting, including health, architecture, horticulture, and entertainment.
